Chapter 5
We were peacefully eating or somewhat with Christy there, when someone crashed through the window. I jumped onto my chair on instinct and so did Christy. I jumped onto the table and dashed over to the body. It was a guy, and he looked about my age. I rotated his head so I could see his face. He had shaggy black hair, he had a lot of scars, too, but he seemed fit for anything. I put his head in my lap and started to murmur something I didn’t know. Before I knew it, my left hand was covered in a blue fire. And as I put it on his heart, his wounds started to heal. “Be careful, Phire. He is a Hunter, a Panther Hunter. He is very fast and deadly.” Christy commented as she came by my side.
“Since when did you start to be so nice to me and warn me?” I asked. I looked over at her and she sighed, apparently not enjoying this.
“Your mother kidnapped me and told me I needed to protect you, your sister, and your friends.” She answered. I nodded, finally understanding. I heard groaning and looked down. There was the guy staring straight into my eyes. And may I say he had the most beautiful dark indigo eyes I’d ever seen. He blinked a few times trying to figure out what happened probably.
“W-where am I?” he asked.
“You’re in a restraint. You took a nasty blow, coming through the window and all.” I answered.
“Who are you?”
“My name is Sapphire, but you can call me Phire. And may I ask who you are?”
“Kyle. I-I think I was fighting someone when I was forced through this window.” He glanced around the restraint, and spotted Christy. He narrowed his eyes, and his voice turned into a snarl, “What are you doing here, reject? I thought they took away your bunny DNA! But apparently you managed to escape. You know that you were taken off the duty of killing experiment 56623. So what are you doing here?”
“My business is nothing of your concern, Hunter. Shouldn’t you be hunting your assignment? And I thought you were better than letting you prey blow you into a civilian restraint,” she snapped back.
“How dare you talk about top secret information from the Place, especially in front of a kind-hearted, fragile civilian like Ms. Phire?”
“Fragile? Ha! Civilian? Double Ha! Oh please, this is experiment 56623, you idiot.” Kyle stared at me and I started to get nervous. I looked at my table and everyone nodded.
I looked down at Kyle and smiled, “It was nice meeting you, but…BYE!” I scrambled up and jumped out the window. I rolled on the pavement twice and broke out into a run. Everyone trailing not far behind. Jade, Opal, and Mo caught up and smiled at me. I sighed and ran around a corner, immediately running into someone.
“Ow!” We both screamed. Breathlessly, Zeke and my Dad loomed over me and the person next to me. I was still on the cold, hard alley floor when I glanced at the person I ran into. She was unconscious and her arm was nauseatingly bleeding. She had glossy, short, tangled, greasy, messed up, blond hair, and cheerful light blue eyes. Her face was smothered in shock, but she was still unconscious. “Vella, I told you to...What happened?!? What did you do to my sister?!” Another girl cried. She looked almost exactly like um…Vella. The girl ran over with unnatural speed and knelt by Vella. “What did you do to my sister!?” she cried, again.
“I-I didn’t do anything. I ran into her-“ I tried to explain, but she interrupted me.
“Liar!!” she screamed. Her dark gray eyes locked onto my golden eyes. Suddenly, her strawberry blonde hair whipped back, as if being blown by a harsh wind. She lifted her hands, me being picked up by the wind. The girl then swung her arms toward the wall, and I got smashed to it. I crumpled to the floor nest to Vella, unconscious. “You don’t mess with Odessa,” she hissed.
